Daijha Cain shows off her new book at the Reach Book Launch.
Yesterday was the Book Launch for Reach’s 2015 books, and we couldn’t be more excited for our authors. So much celebration, so much pride, and so much support for these talented and important young voices. We had the chance to catch up with new author Daijha Cain, who co-wrote A Little Girl in a Big, Big World , during the launch at the Pepco Galley. Daijha dazzled us with her imagination and motivation when we worked with her this summer, and she’s already looking to the future!
Kathy: We’re here with Daijha Cain. How does it feel to be a newly published author?
Daijha: Feels amazing, feels exciting, and I’m just happy to be here and just feel the new author life.
K: *laughs* I love that, feel the new author life. All right, are you gonna keep writing, do you think?
D: Of course, I’m gonna write for the rest of my life! That’s going to be my career.
K: Oh, really? That’s super exciting! What else are you writing?
D: I’m writing a novel, I haven’t named it yet. I’m writing a movie about superheroes… stuff like that. Coming up with new things every day. Poetry, sometimes I play around with other things like personification, stuff like that.
K: What was your favorite part about A Little Girl in a Big, Big World?
D: The talent show! I liked the fact that I, me and my colleagues, we made Jasmine a rapper. I came up with my idea because I said that would be cute. I imagine a little girl rapping, and I think it’s adorable when you hear a little girl rap sometimes. A rap about positive things.
K: Yeah! Yeah, that part’s amazing. I love that. What do you want your readers to take away from your book?
D: You can always make a change in the world, no matter how old you are. Always make a change.
K: That is a beautiful and powerful message.
