LAYC Graphic Memoir Collection

This summer we also held writing workshops with 16 ambitious teens from the Latin American Youth Center’s Latino Youth Leadership Council. They wrote and illustrated true life stories of immigration, education, family, and community. For the past few months, a team of comic book professionals have been working hard to bring these powerful stories together into a bilingual graphic memoir collection not to be missed.

We are thrilled and honored to release the book in an especially poignant locale: Charlottesville, at the Virginia Festival of the Book, where these immigrant teen authors have been invited as featured speakers. There's no time or place more fitting to discuss who we are as a country. Pre-order here and stay tuned for the March 2018 release.

Reach Incorporated 2017 Children’s Books

They’re almost here! For the fifth year in a row we coached the teen tutors of Reach Incorporated to write diverse and inclusive children’s stories, and then gave emerging artists an opportunity to bring those stories to life. Now the latest books are ready for release! The fifth set of Reach Incorporated Books by Teens will be available for sale on the SMP website starting Friday, November 17. We can’t wait for you to read them. Read about these amazing new books, their authors, and illustrators here.

You can also support our partners at Reach and celebrate with the authors, the night before sales go public, November 16 at 6 p.m. Learn more about the event and buy tickets here.

Publisher’s Weekly and “Popup Picks”

Thanks to a new partnership with Biblioboard, Shout Mouse Press will join a “community reading” platform called Popup Picks, a mobile e-book service “that features unmetered access to a curated collection of e-books.” Read more about Popup Picks in Publisher’s Weekly. This is a great way to reach and inspire new readers and writers! We could not be more excited for our authors.

Ballou Story Project

For another year, talented teaching artists are helping students with scholarship and college application essays at Ballou Senior High School. At the end of the last school year, all graduating seniors were accepted to college and we’re excited to make it a tradition for the class of 2018.
