Get Free

Get Free
by Jessica

Freedom to me is being able to be the person I want without any restrictions, rules, or laws that affect my dreams or aspirations. Being free is being able to enjoy life without being scared that what I am doing is wrong. Freedom feels like a fresh air that lets you know that you don’t have any preoccupations, gives you calm and peace.

I do not feel like I have freedom because I am in the process of becoming a resident of the United States, and for that reason I have to be really careful with what I do. Becoming a resident is a long process and immigration agents are checking on what I do to prove that I am a good citizen. The moments where I feel free is when I have the opportunity to be part of groups, teams, or any programs where I am able to be myself with other people and enjoy without caring about race, skin color, religion or language. We are just focused on accomplishing the same goal.

Being free requires other people to let you do whatever you want and what I personally need to be free is to not be spied on by immigration agents. I don’t want any more restrictions, I also don’t want society to look at me with differences. I want to be free of stereotypes and enjoy the opportunities that this country offers me.
