My Busy New Home (MSMU)
by Tania

You became my new home, a place to learn and to mature.

You gave me the independence I needed to become an adult.

Through you, I met new people that I now call friends.

You are a place that is supposed to prepare me for the future,

the place that taught me how to be responsible.

I see you like home, and others might see you like freedom.

Either way, you change people in one way or another.

My watch became the bell I was continually watching not to miss any class.

But one day everything changed.

The cafeteria, my favorite place, became dangerous.

The library, the best place to study, became the most vulnerable place to be.

One day people stopped going outside their dorms.

The panic was everywhere, and even mass was not pleasant as usual.

People were so scared, and although they needed a hug or a handshake, they couldn’t touch each other.

Why is everyone packing their things? The semester has not ended yet.

Don’t worry; it will be for only two weeks or maybe more, perhaps the rest of the semester.

The faith that gave rise to my new home is showing its concern for the community.

People of faith are coming together to support those in need.

We might not even share the same faith, but I see that you care for me,

My new home sends me positive vibes and support, virtually.

I can see that you genuinely care for me and support me emotionally and financially.

It is sad to see my new home empty, but I understand that its priority is people’s health.

I might not physically be there, but my soul is.

And I remember you as a busy place.

A place that brings joy and unites students, professors, and staff.

After this chaos, we all are going to go back, and everything will be the same.

People will continue to support each other.

Bilingual masses will bring people of faith together.

The clubs and sports will open.

Classes will continue to teach the brain and soul.

Friday nights will continue to be movie nights.

The weekends will be the days to share with friends and see our families.

I know it will.
