Week 4 (April 22 - April 28):
Many have expressed that art helps them cope with the stressors encountered in quarantine. Respond to this prompt with five pieces of art (can be music, films, books, pictures, etc.) that have helped you get through and process the pandemic. Tell us why these works of art have helped you. How might these pieces help others?
Art Has Been an Escape Door for Me
by Wendy
It doesn't matter how I feel, in this pandemic I see that art makes me encourage myself. I can show the people what art means to me in different ways. I love taking photos, I remember when I started I was so shy because I was scared I wasn’t a good photographer. Now, I understand with time, that practice makes the teacher. I decide to take photos every single day to become better with cameras and every piece that I make with photos. I don't know how to express it, but I put a little of my soul in what I do. I love the vibes that I can share of the people or places I go with my camera. I can be grateful because I have this skill which is very powerful. Art can be the world; you don't need to talk, you just need to shoot at the right time and make that picture something that you can make people feel or think.
Heyy Siri, Play Music!
By: Najae
My playlist consists of a variety of artists. They all give me a different vibe. I listen to music whenever I just need to self reflect. Music keeps my mind in a constant flow of thoughts!
“Say yes” by Floetry
When listening to this sound it reminds me of how, sometimes, simple things can be hard. It reminds me of the old times. Floetry, overall, keeps me in touch with wisdom. The song all together is really relatable and understanding.
Quarantine mood: Looking at something to watch? Let me tell you what I have enjoyed.
by April
Hours of Leisure that you will not regret watching or listening:
My quarantine films/tv shows,
1. Ghost world. It’s a movie about two teenagers that got out of Highschool, trying to discover the real adult life making choices that will lead them to the next step of maturity. What I love most about this film is the simplicity in how they present interesting characters with their different roles and behaviors, so extravagant. Ghost World is much like a dark comedy.
Rewind
by Aniyah
Coping with the stress of this pandemic was hard to figure out at first. I realized that is because I tried a lot at once when I should have worked on one thing at a time. What helps me may or may not help you, but you should still try it. I listen to a variety of music. You can just listen to rough sounds, but sometimes your brain needs soothing sounds. Songs like Jhené Aiko’s “Pray For You,” and Marty Woodson “Sunday,” even other songs like “Sunday Candy” by Chance The Rapper all have soft melodies.
Art is the Future
by Sam
During this time, art has been very helpful and beneficial to have in my life: from music, knitting, cooking, painting, and movies. There are often many different forms of art that people do not think about on a daily basis, but I like to use art to learn new things, pass time, relax, and save money.
Tee’s Playlist
by Temil
You know how usually people have a set playlist of all the music they listen to so they don’t have to struggle taking time to find the song they want? Yeah, not me.. I don’t know why I never really actually made a playlist🤔 as much as I love music. Maybe it’s because I love music so much that I know the name of every song and the person who sings it, lol. Music is #1 art for me. It allows you to express your emotions while leaving you completely open-minded. I’m one of those people who will listen to music in order to complete an assignment. It might sound weird but it can actually work. Maybe something in the song makes me realize something or helps me come up with solutions. Some artists that I really enjoy listening to are Lil Baby and Rod Wave. Both of these men are great artists. They know how perfectly to express their emotions and thoughts through their music, giving people something to relate and cope to. Furthermore, many parents think too much TV for kids is a bad thing, but not when they can watch Netflix, lol.
The Art That Keeps Me Breathing
by Salihah
Roberta keeps me company when I write. Her voice making everything poetic, making me believe I’m a poet.
The strokes play in my headphones as I try to mimic their stylings. Fingers tripping on the A string. I am not good, not yet.
Alexa
by J’yona
Alexa play ”Katy Perry” on Apple Music:
I listen to Katy perry when I feel like singing. I don’t know why, but old Katy Perry songs like “The One that Got Away” or “Hot and Cold” just make me feel like the sounds coming from my mouth sound harmonic when in reality I sound like à dying cat.
Alexa play “Billie Eilish” on Apple Music:
Magic List
by Camal Ali
1). Lil Wayne - Blunt Blowin’
Lil Wyne basically summed everything that the media criticized him for into one phrase, and said yea that's exactly who I am. “I'm ah blunt blowin, Polo draws showing, I dont give a lovely m****rf**k a* ni**a..." I love how he expressed his level of apathy when it comes to what people think of him. I find inspiration in Lil Wayne's delivery. As he was able to unapologetically be himself, and it reminds me to do the same.
2). Duke Ellington & John Coltrane - In A Sentimental Mood
My Mom is actually the one to have put me on to this, but this is truly a piece of art.
Walk On By
by Tywin
Over the brief amount of time that I have existed on this Earth, there have been various music genres and forms of art that have had more of an impact on me than others. Now more than ever, we are no doubt using art during the quarantine to find a shred of comfort and normalcy to cope with. One of the first songs that come to mind to keep me distracted for a moment or two would be the song “Barumba” by Incognito. It is definitely on my Jazz, Bossa Nova, and relax playlists from now until the end of the road.
Getting through this pandemic with my senses
by Tania
I love music because it is the kind of art that relaxes me all the time. My musical taste is diverse. I enjoy listening to music of different genres and in different languages. During this quarantine, I have been listening to Camilo - Favorito. This song has helped me get through and process the pandemic because it is the song that makes me want to dance. Camilo is one of my favorite singers, and Favorito is not only a dance song, but also romantic. In addition, it has a positive message: loving yourself without reaching typical beauty standards, "eres perfecta sin el 90 60 90" (you are perfect without the 90 60 90).
My Quarantine & Chill
by Jailah
Ghost Adventures...this is my favorite TV show when I’m really doing nothing, and really just wanna do nothing and kick back.
Music….it keeps me out of my thoughts about everything going on. I don’t have a favorite type of music. I’ll listen to just anything depending on the mood I’m in.
My Way of Dealing
by Shawma
Being in self-isolation is very hard for me. I find myself feeling lonely and lost from the world all the time. My playlist has been one of my coping mechanisms for getting through this self-isolation time. There are five songs that I constantly listen to throughout the day to help keep my mind at ease. Those five songs are
Tupac- Keep Ya Head Up
Chris Brown- No Guidance
Biggie- Juicy
Whitney Houston-I wanna dance with somebody
Brent Faiyaz- Clouded
